Frequently Asked Questions

Questions you need answers to

  • What is College Ave?

College Ave launched in 2014, with a big vision and simple mission – take the stress out of paying for college so students can focus on preparing for a bright future. Now a top-two lender, College Ave remains committed to using best-in-class technology and deep industry expertise to deliver practical and personal solutions that give students a running start on their roads to financial success. College Ave offers a full suite of products for students, including undergraduate and graduate loans, as well as degree-specific loan products for MBA, Dental, Law and Medical students.

  • Who is eligible for a student loan with College Ave?

College Ave loans are available for undergraduate, graduate and professional students. In addition to our undergraduate loan, we offer a suite of graduate specific loan products including Graduate Health Professions, MBA, Dental School, Law School and Medical School Loans.

To qualify, students must apply with a social security number and U.S. address, be enrolled in an eligible program which includes non-degree, continuing education, certificate programs and degree programs, and have the ability to repay the loan as determined by a credit review. International students will need to apply with a qualified cosigner that is a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident. All students must meet the satisfactory academic progress (SAP) guidelines as defined by their school.

A cosigner may be needed for student borrowers who do not meet financial, credit or other requirements of securing a private student loan.

College Ave also offers a Parent/Sponsor Loan as an option to borrow on behalf of a student. Students must be enrolled in an eligible program and must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident. All students must meet the satisfactory academic progress (SAP) guidelines as defined by their school.

  • Do you require students to make satisfactory academic progress (SAP) in order to receive the loan?

Yes, we ask the school to verify satisfactory academic progress (SAP) during school certification. The school applies their individual criteria for SAP. In other words, we don’t define SAP, but we do ask the school to confirm that the student is making SAP according to each school’s definition.

  • Can a cosigner be released from a loan?

Yes. If the borrower meets the following criteria, they can submit an application requesting to remove their cosigner from the loan:

    1. Must be a U.S.Citizen or permanent resident
    2. Half of the original repayment term must have elapsed. (for example, if your loan has a 10-year repayment term the loan is eligible for cosigner release after the 5th year).
    3. Documented annual income is at least twice the balance of outstanding loan(s) (pay stubs, tax returns, or other evidence of income must be submitted).
    4. Pass a credit review and has none of the following:
      1. 30 day or greater delinquency in the last 12 months, and
      2. bankruptcy, foreclosure, or repossession in the last 24 months.

To submit an application, go to the Document Upload Center. Select the option for 'Cosigner release application' and provide all required information.

  • Do you have multi-year approval?

With College Ave Multi-Year Peace of Mind® you can get the money you need for your entire degree. 90% of our undergraduate borrowers are approved for additional loans to cover their degree when they apply with a cosigner3. This means less stress for more semesters. This is only available with our Undergraduate Student Loans.
